Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer is celebrating a double win at the International Gaming Awards and the Casino Awards 2022 in London.

The distinctions of “Best Casino Operator” and “Best Overall Casino” triggered a delighted response from Jean-Luc Biamonti, Deputy Chairman of SBM enthusing: “We are very honoured to receive the “Best Casino Operator” and “Best Overall Casino” awards for the Casino de Monte-Carlo. I am delighted to see the concrete results of our efforts to maintain an impeccable quality of service during an uncertain period. Thanks to the motivation and seriousness of all the staff in the games sector over the past three years, we are now rewarded. It is with gratitude that I would like to share this award with all the employees of all of our casinos.”

Pascal Camia, Director of Operations at SBM, was similarly jubilant: “On behalf of all the employees of the Monaco casinos, I am proud to receive these prizes. They illustrate our tireless work, our commitment to exclusive service to our customers and also the professionalism of our teams.”

The Casino is headed up by  Roman Aureglia and Jean-Luc Guenier and has recently reopened for tours. After the Prince’s Palace it is the most visited place in the Principality. This jewel of the Belle Époque, inaugurated on February 18, 1863 is after a pause during the pandemic, once again a thriving hub of visitors.

It is the most opulent gambling house in Europe, with its decoration, the work of the most renowned engravers and goldsmiths on the continent. And there is no better showcase of the art of living.

You can get a flavour of what makes the Monte Carlo Casino consistently rated as the best in the world by taking advantage of a Casino Tour. There is almost an infinite amount of history in which to be immersed and glorious architecture throughout including:

  • the Atrium with its sumptuous marble, gold and bronze decor and 28 Ionic-style columns
  • the Renaissance Room and then the Salon Europe with its columns, vast canopy ceilings, profuse gilding, monumental crystal chandeliers and ironically now hosts to American games of chance
  • The Salles Touzet built by a Monegasque containing the most beautiful crystal chandeliers of the Casino
  • The Garnier gaming room, the Salle des Amériques designed by Charles Garnier owing its current name to the installation of American games such as Craps and Black Jack.
  • the Salle Rose, now a dining room originally intended for players who could not do without smoking since it was then forbidden to smoke at the Casino de Monte-Carlo

History’s Casino of Choice Too

Roulette made the reputation of the Casino de Monte-Carlo. The incredible success of Charles Deville Wells is historic. During the summer of 1891 in Monaco, he broke the bank at roulette by pocketing one million, then three million gold francs.

Crowned heads, businessmen, celebrities and courtesans, but also artists and writers will win fortunes and lose their shirts too … famously described by Fyodor Dostoyevsky in his novel The Gambler.
