Last month, we announced the new book Probability and Statistics for 12-Year-Olds (and Maybe You) by David Sklansky, and said it would be available in November. Well, we’ve had some issues getting the Amazon Kindle finished, but it’s coming and should be available shortly.
As for right now, the big event in poker is the Polk-Negreanu no-limit hold ’em heads-up grudge match with blinds of $200 and $400. Of course, we at Two Plus Two are rooting for Doug Polk to crush him. And at the time of this writing, Doug is ahead $143,996.16 after 4,651 hands. Now given the fluctuations that are present in this game, that’s not a lot, but we do anticipate Doug’s lead growing as more hands get played. Hopefully I’m correct about this.
However, besides my personal interest in the players, one of whom I like a lot, the match has been far more interesting to me than I would have thought it would be. Part of this is because I’ve watched a bunch of Upswing Poker instructional videos and can see some of the strategies they advocate being used. But perhaps more important, you can see the beauty of the game of heads-up no-limit hold ’em where a large bet can be made at anytime and the current outcome, as well as the flow of the game, can change at anytime.
Also, there are a number of sites including Upswing Poker, GGPoker, and Joey Ingram that have been following the match with all presenting interesting commentary and explaining as best as they can, since the starting cards are not shown, exactly what the strategies are. Congratulations to all of them for following the match, keeping us well informed, and helping to make poker more interesting.
In addition, at the time of this writing, it appears that when this match is over, we may see some more high profile heads-up matches as well. Even the great Doyle Brunson is talking about taking Doug on, but he’s suggesting a different game from heads-up no-limit hold ’em, and I don’t blame him.
