Coleman, Butcher Battle For USA Online Poker Rankings Top Spot

New Jersey’s David ‘dehhhhh’ Coleman retains the #1 spot on the USA Online Poker Rankings.

It’s a brand new year for the online grinders in the Regulated States of America and an early snapshot of the U.S.A. Online Poker Rankings finds some new names challenging the familiar faces for their spot in the top-10.

David ‘dehhhhh’ Coleman (6,027 PLB points) retains the top spot in the U.S.A. thanks to an impressive string of PLB-qualified cashes to kick-off 2021.

The New Jersey online grinder picked up wins in the January 4 edition of the $15,000 Weekly Sunday Deepstack for $7,705 and 170.51 PLB points and the January 6 edition of the Mega $535 Tuesday for $7,611 and another 156.68 PLB points. He picked up another 164.58 PLB points with his January 8 victory in the $20,000 Weekly Thursday which was good for another $9,480.

So far this year, Coleman has logged seven top-three finishes (four of which were outright wins) and nine four-figure scores. He is currently ranked #57 in the world, down just a few spots from his career-high ranking of #50 where he sat in late 2020.

Challenging Coleman for the #1 ranking in the U.S. is Alexander ‘Veruz’ Butcher (5,707 PLB points). The up-and-coming Butcher is originally from Michigan but is currently playing out of New Jersey and he has been making his presence felt in the U.S. regulated online sites over the past six months.

Butcher had a tremendous December which included capturing his current career-high online score of $38,256 and 416.66 PLB points when he took down the $1,000 buy-in $75,000 Sunday High Roller on December 14. Two weeks later he made a deep run in the WPT Online Poker Open Main Event in which he finished in 15th place for another $13,115.

The big scores continued for Butcher when the New Year arrived. On January 11 he booked the win in the $50,000 Weekly Sunday for $24,223 and 291.54 PLB points, the second-highest online score of his career. As recently as January 16, Butcher found himself in the winner’s circle yet again on in the $15,000 Weekly Friday as he added $6,757 to his bankroll, and pushed his lifetime total recorded cashes to just over $830,000.

All of his hard work paid off by helping him break into online poker’s top-100 worldwide rankings. Butcher currently sits at #70, down a few spots from his all-time high of #57.

To reach the #2-spot, Butcher had to get past perennial top-ranked U.S. grinder Yong ‘ykwon17’ Kwon (5,226 PLB points). Kwon was recently named the 2020 Player of the Year and earned himself a $10,000 cash prize as well as a package that includes a set in a $1K online event in the 2021 World Series of Poker.

Kwon’s spotlight scores from the last month include a victory in the December 16 edition of the Tuesday Showdown for $24,844 and 295.48 PLB points and a runner-up finish in the December 20 PokerStars NJ Sunday Special for another $4,757 and 115.58 PLB points.

Kwon put a bow on his 2020 with a win in the $25,000 Weekly Monday on December 29 for $10,047 and 189.43 PLB points. So far in 2021 has continued his trademark grind, racking up six four-figure cashes with two wins.
